Chris Wilson hat ja auf der @media2006 schon angekündigt, dass die Entwicklungszyklen für Microsofts Browser kürzer werden sollen.

In einem Interview auf ZDNet hat er jetzt verlautbaren lassen, dass wir mit Version 8 unseres Lieblingsbrowsers schon in 12 bis 18 Monaten rechnen dürfen.

While Wilson didn’t share many meaty IE 8.0 details, he noted that security, privacy and compatibility will all be top priorities in the next IE release, which is expected some time in the next 12-18 months.

Auÿerdem soll die neue Version microformats unterstützen!

“Mash-ups will continue to drive innovation. Componentization and semantic tagging of data will be supported,” Wilson told the Ajax Experience crowd. Wilson touted the harnessing of microformats, like Microsoft has done with its Live Clipboard effort, as “real world stuff” that will “make the Web much more usable [..] Microformats add meaning to content in HTML,” Wilson said.

Das heiÿt Apple unterstützt jetzt microformats in seinem Web Mailer, Firefox arbeitet dran, sie in Version 3 einzubauen und IE wird Mikroformate in Version 8 unterstützen. Und spätestens wenn die Großen das erstmal eingabaut haben, dann folgen auch andere.

Bleibt nur zu hoffen, dass Microsoft sich nicht einen eigenen MSMicroformats Standard einfallen läßt.
